Adoption F.A.Q.

Why choose to adopt through Gateway Woods?

What are the requirements for adopting through Gateway Woods?

What's the process for adopting?

FOR THE BIRTHPARENT:

Can I choose a family for my baby?

You can choose a family after reviewing adoptive family profiles. Our staff can assist you in this decision.

Will I be able to meet the prospective adoptive parents?

If you choose, we will arrange a meeting with the prospective adoptive family in a safe and supportive environment. Our worker will be present for your support.

How soon after birth will the baby be placed with the adoptive family?

Usually the baby will go home from the hospital with the adoptive family.

Can I get information about my baby after the adoption?

Yes. We can help you and the adoptive family develop a plan for exchanging information.

How will I know my baby is safe and doing well in a new home?

Our agency does a complete home-study evaluation and criminal background checks on each adoptive family. After placement, Gateway Woods visits your child and the adoptive family at least three times. We also obtain information about how your child is doing from your child's physician.

What assistance is available for medical and living costs during my pregnancy?

Financial planning and assistance is available.

Is counseling available to help me through this process?

Counseling is available through our agency or through an outside agency both before and after the birth of your child.
